- Executive Director Message
Welcome to the website of the Detroit/GyeNyame Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated and thank you for visiting. Chartered in 1979, we are the oldest graduate chapter in the Great Lakes Region. The Detroit/GyeNymae Graduate Chapter has worked hard to
distinguish itself as a leader of community service in Detroit and surrounding areas. In this website we will guide you through our rich 40 plus year history and our three pronged approach of Membership Growth, Community Service, and Youth Mentoring. This website will introduce you to who we are as an International Organization, and who we are as a local chapter. This website will explain the meaning of GROOVE, the meaning of our PHI, and the meaning of GyeNyame (GineYahMay). In this website we will familiarize you with our mission and purpose.
The Brothers of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated are husbands, fathers, sons, and community leaders. We are continuously striving to empower the communities we serve. We seek to advance community life and to enhance the futures of individuals through service. In this website you will learn of our Community Service and Social Interaction Initiatives as well as ways and methods to support our efforts through partnerships, participation and donations. The Detroit/GyeNyame Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated is a 501c3 Non Profit organization and all donations, including in-kind donations, are tax deductible. While all of us know that Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Inc. ® was founded at Morgan State University, the "Mother Bear," few of us are aware of the details surrounding that time period back in 1962. For instance, one could fairly conclude that there are actually 17 founders and not the 14 we learn about during our pledge period. The following chronological record which describes the birth of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Inc. ® was compiled by Founders Nathaniel Parham and Barry Hampton over 15 years ago. Learning more about our history will serve to strengthen our foundation as we stride into the future.
